  • McAfee Email Security Solutions End of Life is Eminent

If you’re an organization that relies on Intel Security’s Email Security Solutions for its SaaS email protection and archiving capabilities, you only have a few more months to find a new email archiving tool…or else. The clock is ticking. What are you waiting for?

Before getting into the specifics, here’s a little background first:

Intel Security announced last year the McAfee Email Security Solutions End of Life initiative—which in essence meant the software company would discontinue the majority of McAfee SaaS email solutions—particularly components involving email archiving, email encryption and email protection and continuity.

    So what does this mean?

This means that if you’re an Intel customer who subscribes to any of these McAfee’s SaaS email components, you’ll need to start making some serious decisions in the coming months—especially if you access these components using McAfee’s Email Gateway product. Subscribers of Gateway will not be able to renew their services past Jan. 11, 2017.

This doesn’t mean you’re left out in the cold after this date. If your organization relies on these McAfee SaaS email archiving solutions, you’ll be able to archive emails until your subscription expires. However, upon expiration you must extract archived messages and import into an alternative platform within six months, after which all messages will be automatically and permanently deleted from the archive.

It’s Time to Start Planning Your McAfee SaaS Replacement

IT directors and managers of organizations that subscribe to Intel’s product should all be aware of the pending McAfee Email Security Solutions End of Life initiative, especially the upcoming Jan. 11, 2017 deadline.

If you’re just learning about this news today, or who you’ve been twiddling your thumbs knowing full well the end is growing near, now is the time to put plans in place to migrate to a new email archiving solution in place of McAfee’s email security products. This is because migrating to a new email archiving solution takes time, and time is running out.

Why Time is of the Essence

The length of any migration process is 100% dependent upon just how much data you plan on transferring. So if you’re a small company with a small amount of data to transfer, it could take a week or even a month. But if you’re a medium to large size company with a massive amount of data then it could take several months.

While Intel has pledged it will continue to service customers who still have subscriptions, they have also admitted that service of such products will begin to wane beginning after the Jan. 11, 2017 deadline. This means the customer service you’ve come to expect as a subscriber will begin to fade away, and in some cases it likely already has.

What Happens if You Miss the Jan. 11, 2017 Deadline?

After Jan. 11, 2017, subscribers will still have access to their archiving service, however you’ll only have six months to extract and transfer all of your email to a new archiving solution.

What Are Your Choices for a McAfee SaaS Replacement?

Intel has strongly encouraged its customers whose subscriptions are coming to an end to seek and implement an alternative archive vendor immediately. The problem is that you literally have dozens of choices when it comes to a replacement for McAfee’s SaaS email archiving solution.

The software company is hoping to push its customers toward a product known as Proofpoint, but it’s worth taking a look at other solutions. Proofpoint may not have all the bells and whistles as other archiving solutions (i.e. on premise solutions, up-to-date data centers, upgraded infrastructure, etc.).
